My Sieg X3 CNC mill conversion. I converted a Chinese milling machine over to CNC over a year ago. I have a build thread over at (they make good quality kits for converting mills). The project was very fun aside from the electrocution and a few cuts, and I have built several projects using the mill .
One of the main reasons for changing machines was because Sieg is no longer supported by my local machine supplier which made it difficult to get service. Although not perfect, it was a good mill and if you can get support from a local company, I would recommend it. My SX3 was only available with 3MT spindle and I would recommend an R8.

Mar 10, 2013· My whole metal shop has to fit along one wall of a two car garage, Bridgeport type milling machines are pretty much out of question. From the get go a friend categorically talked me out of a round column mill/drill, so my choices were limited to Sieg X3, Sieg SX3, a Rung Fu 45 clone or one of the smaller knee mills.
This X3 mill drill machine has a (High / Low) 2speed gearbox drive system to maximise torque: 01000rpm and rpm ideal for different types of material. The X3 mill drill is powered by a 600W () electronic variable speed motor adjusted by a dial located on the side control panel. Heavy duty cast iron body and base for better stability.
My milling machine started life as a standard Sieg X3. There was a company called Promica that did a conversion kit as well as sold these as a turnkey unit, which is what I got. There are quite a few videos on YouTube showing their equipment in action. Unfortunately they subsequently went out of business and I am now on my own!
